Roles on shoot

In todays lesson Pandora and I selected roles on set for the shoot day, we decided that Alex should be on the camera as she does photography which is very similar to the media cameras. Then Maia for the art director this role will involve placing the actors were they should be and adjusting scenes to how they should look, we gave her this role as she is doing the editing therefore it will help her in the process. Then I am going to be the organiser involving the clipboard and focusing on the schedule of the day. And pandora will be involved with the style direction as she is very keen on this area.

Today in class we brainstormed thinking of ideas for our social media platform for the band. Two members of our group are ill so we changed the roles on set to me and pandora doing the social media incase they are away for a longer period of time, as we are able to get started in school. I originally wanted to do the digi pack design as I am interested in graphic design and enjoy creating pieces, therefore I am going to create digital posters for the social media page. In class we decided that we will be focusing our attention on creating an instagram account as we have more experience with this platform over anything else. We also organised a shoot with the band for the social media, we are doing one for the whole band than a separate shoot for just Kate using the photography studio. For now we are just going to take pictures around school in which we wrote a plan for, listing ideas of both locations and shots. We have gone on to plan various shoots we will re create.

To get a better understanding of what we want to achieve in the next few days, I selected some pictures which we could easily re create. I found these images on various different instagrams of indie bands, these include: Bombay bicycle club, the 1975, wolf Alice and the wombats. Through out all of their instagrams they display multiple digital posters, pictures of them performing and group pictures. It is clear through their instagrams that they are all friends posting these casual pictures which is easy for us to re create, they also post very posey set up pictures which we will also re create. 

 

Band costume fitting

Today we organised the outfits for our band, we have three boys who will be playing the drums and two guitarists. For the band we wanted a smart ish style but still have elements of the hippie colourful boldness. To do this we sent the band all the separate outfit treatments just for the shack scene. We then went through similar options which they had at home. We discussed this over half term therefore the band were able to all contrapute some item as they were at home and not boarding. Then today we reviewed all the options we had and it went very well. We got the band menvers to try on different styles and combos of outfits to see both how comfortable they are and fit wise on each member, then more importantly the look. If it suits them and suits the vibe we want

 

This is David our drummers outfit and the idea we had for his outfit, this outfit turned out very successful. The outfit is very similar to the reference image we wanted, which I placed next to my image. I really like this outfit as it is bold and cool with the colours and design on the jumper, however it still is smart. It is also all Davids own clothes which is good as he will feel comfortable in and has room to move in the jumper, as it is not to tight. Which he needs as he is playing the drums which requires lots of movement particularly in the arms. I also think the jewellery adds this cool quirky element to the outfit one of the necklaces is his own which he will also wear in the video.

This is Oscar one of our guitarists, we decided on his outfit as displayed in the images, however we haven't decided which top to choose from. Either we use the patterned shirt or the plain top, I am drawn to the plain top as I feel the patterned shirt has to much going on. These again are all oscars own clothes therefore he will feel comfortable which will hopefully make him feel more confident. His jacket is a leather blazer which I think is perfect as it is an in-between hippie and smart which goes great with our video. It also goes very well with all the other outfits.

The final outfit is for Max another one of our guitarists. I placed the reference image and the outfit we chose. The outfit we chose is none of Max's clothes therefore we got him to try on the outfit and it all fits fine. This outfit is smart and has strong elements of the hippie cool vibe, which is shown through the patterned shirt. It is also clear through the colour palette we used, it has these earthy brown yellow tones. We also will add jewellery to this outfit a few wristbands and potentially some necklace, this will highlight the creativity each member has and almost show a bit of their personality through teh jewellery they wear.

Costume fitting

Today we organised a costume fitting for the whole band. As we had the whole band we also did a quick rehearsal with the band playing the music. This was very successful and everyone knows their bit including Kate who has learnt the lyrics. This was a good preparation for the video as it gave us an idea of what everyone will look like on the day. Helping us in-vision what the shoot will look like. Today we got each member to try in a few various different outfits, from items we all collectively brought. 

First we looked For Kate our main singer we selected four outfits which we will use on the day, we then have backups for these four outfits incase something gets lost or just doesn’t work on the shoot day. We carried on with this hippie vibey style in which we went for a dark colourful colour palette. We planned the outfits around the shoots on what will go best with each scene, colour wise. I am really happy with all these outfits I think they will really compliment the style we are going for and add to Kates character massively. Below is the four outfits we will use on the day for each scene. Then in the aura scene we have two outfits as we have another idea of doing a full body shot of her dancing, in which we will use the orange dress as we think with the bright vibrant light the orange would be the mosteffective colour and put emphasis on Kate making her stand out. Which is what we want to achieve as she is the main singer. We also selected.

This is one of the outfits we selected for Kate, this outfit we will use in the aura head shot scene. Firstly we felt using a dress would add to the whole beachy vibe as the dress is long and flown which is a typical beach outfit. This particular dress will every effective as it has this yellow tone to it, which when the vibrant light is shon on to it, it will put emphasis on Kate as the yellow will create a cool colour. We then selected this cardigan Kate has to go with the dress as it is this crochet material which has lots of small holes. This could create a cool effect when playing with the light creating potential shadows. We are not sure if this will work and are going to experiment with the lights later this week. However we still think it goes nicely with the dress anyway. It matches the earthy colour palette we are going for with the earthy green tone and yellow together. 

The next outfit is going to go with the outfits above in the same scene, the aura scene. We are using two outfits as it will add another element to our video making it more interesting. However with this outfit we are going to see a full body shot of her dancing in the video. I do not think this is the best option for the full body shot but my group disagreed with my point, which is that I think we could face issues with the skirt rising up as she is dancing, and especially that this shot is a full body shot. Therefore I suggested that we switch the two outfits. However I do really like this outfit as I think the top is very much hippie and bold, it will also again go really nicely with the vibrant colours.

These are the last two outfits we selected, the outfit on the left with the jeans is the outfit for the shack. This is because in this scene we are going to place Kate on the floor lying down a lot therefore it will create less of a hassle with the worry of a dress or skirt rising up. We also felt that jeans is comfortable for Kate to move around in and not have to worry, as we are quite keen on her dancing around with other people in the scene. The second outfit is for the jars scene, we chose this as iyt again matches the earthy vibe. The dress will also put emphasis on Kate as iyt is this yellow orange tone dress, which will be highlighted with the fairy lights. 

This is an image I took of all the jewellery we all brought in, this is particularly for Kate in her outfits. As the outfits are somewhat simple we are quite keen on using lots of jewellery to add to the outfit. Also the usage of jewellery adds to the hippie character and this unique earthy girl who has her cool crystal necklaces. As well as Kate using the jewellery we are going to put the boys in some less prominent jewellery to add to their outfit. Two of the boys have their ears pierced so `I thought that we could get them to both wear one earring each from the same set of two. This idea of them sharing earrings suggest the friendship they share within the band. Connecting them not as just a band but as a group of friends. 

Dijipack

This is the digipack design I created, using images from the internet. For this design I selected images which represent the hippie psychedelic theme clearly, this involves various bold colours in this flow pattern. I like this design as it displays both the band and the main singer but shows the level of importance the singer has over the band as I placed her as the main cover. Doing this shows she is the lead singer, and using a close up of her suggests this closeness she has with the fans. To replicate this I am able to draw this digitally to create an animation type of the band and singer, as it is a different outlook showing their creativity in a sense, and that they are quirky. I really like this outcome as it uses this bold colourful colour palette and represents the band clearly.

Creating props

 

For our video it is very much hippie orientated, and focuses on auras and free spirits. Our main singer is this unique indie girl and to add to this creative quirky side we want to show, we will use these unusual objects which I created. This idea will add to her creativity and weirdness we want her to have, as they are slightly weird and you cannot really tell what they are. They look a bit like crystals in the idea that they are similar to rocks. It also could relate to the beach, almost as if she has picked up rocks or shells and she is collecting them. We will place these objects in the bottles scene amongst the jars and bottles circling the singer. It will allow us to fill the room with more props and create it more visually appealing having interesting objects as well as the jars.

I spent a few days creating these objects as I felt it would really add to our music video. I have created around ten fairly small objects as shown in the pictures. To create these I simply bought some expanding foam and sprayed it on to a plastic bag. This foam then expanded and grew into an unusual shape similar to rocks. I let them dry for a few days until they had fully expanded I took these photographs. To add to the psychedelic theme of our video, I am going on to paint them bright colours. This will put emphasis on to the objects and make them stand out.

Which roles we gave each other and why

As a group we decided the roles which we will each have following our shoot day. Their are four roles these are, editor, Digipack designer and then two of us for creating the social media campaign. Maia was very keen on doing the editing as it is something she enjoys doing so we felt this made the most sense. Then for deciding the rest we felt that Alexa and I could create the social media campaign the best as we work well together and would put lots of effort into this as this role will be very time consuming and require lots of effort. We are unsure about pandora doing the digipack as both Alexa and I doing photography which will be very useful for producing the digipack however pandora does art and is very keen on creating this.
